Our Founder’s Story: A Testimony
My name is Dr. Akilah El. I have two holistic centers in Georgia. One is located in Riverdale and the other is located in Marietta. When I was growing up, I was never taught the importance of good nutrition and positive thinking. I ate the typical American diet, which consisted of mostly junk food with very little fruits, vegetables, and water. In the course of many years eating this way, I developed allergies, eczema, unbearable menstrual cramps, migraine headaches, tonsillitis, hair lost, and obesity. I never thought to change my eating habits until I was hit with the biggest illness of them all - CANCER!
In 1991, while attending Fort Valley University, I went
to see my gynecologist for a routine check-up. A few days later, I received
a call from her stating that my test came back with abnormal cells.
She requested that I come back in for a retest. Most
women know that going to the gynecologist is not a fun day at the park,
but I wanted to make sure everything was alright, so I went back to
her clinic for more testing. Four days later, my gynecologist told me
that she believed I had Cervical Cancer. She referred me to an OB-GYN
specialist who was located in a major city, thirty minutes from our
town. She called him and scheduled an appointment for me to see him
within that same week.
